What it involves

Children’s dentistry focuses on building healthy habits early and making the dentist a calm, familiar place. Visits typically include a gentle examination, a clean where appropriate, and friendly advice for both child and parent on brushing, diet and looking after new and baby teeth.

  • Gentle check-ups at a pace that suits your child
  • Cleans and fluoride where appropriate
  • Guidance on brushing, diet and habits like thumb-sucking
  • Early monitoring of how adult teeth are coming through

Bulk billing and the CDBS

Many children are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), a Medicare scheme that provides a capped benefit toward basic dental care over a rolling two-year period for eligible children aged 0–17. Where your child is eligible, routine examinations and cleans can often be bulk-billed, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for covered items within the available balance.

Our reception team can check eligibility and explain what’s covered before treatment.

What to expect

We take time to let children settle in and explain things in a way that makes sense to them. Parents are welcome to stay alongside. There’s no rush, and we work to keep visits positive so coming back is easy.

If treatment beyond a check-up is needed, we’ll talk you through it and provide costs for anything not covered by the CDBS.

Common questions

When should my child first see a dentist?

A good guide is by their first birthday or when their first teeth appear. Early, gentle visits help children get comfortable before any treatment is ever needed.

Is my child eligible for the CDBS?

Eligibility depends on age and family entitlements such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. We can check eligibility and the remaining balance for you at reception.

What if my child is nervous?

That’s very common. We move at your child’s pace, explain things gently, and welcome a parent staying alongside. There’s no pressure and no rush.
